Urban Conservation Unit

The UCU is home of the Urban Conservation Programme. It was set up in April 2002 and is based at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, although most of its project work is conducted out on the Cape Flats. The Unit has been focusing its energies on three main outreach and conservation projects, namely
  • Cape Flats Nature: Biodiversity for the People,
  • Working for Wetlands: Restoration of Edith Stephens Wetland Park, and
  • Joe Slovo Greenbelt Project: Greening in an informal settlment.
