Shopping at the Walter Sisulu NBG

Isitiya Gift & Book Shop

Open daily from 08h00-17h00

The Isitiya (Xhosa for Garden) Gift and Book Shop opened its doors on the 16 October 2004.  The new gift and book shop hopes to contribute to the long term vision and objectives of the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens by selling gifts and books that focus on South African history, our natural environment and showcasing local arts and crafts.

We hope to attract local and international visitors to the shop not only through retail but also by introducing a book club for adults and children, organising special talks on natural and South African history and inviting local writers, poets and artists to showcase their work.

The Book Club which will meet twice a month - days and times to be confirmed. Once a month a book review will be hosted by an author for deeper insight and discussion on the relevant book chosen. They hope to provide members with a unique reading experience by setting no limits to the type of books read and discussed. Their aim is to promote South African authors and poets across all genres - gardening, cooking, English and Afrikaans fiction and more.

As part of the growing trend to link cultural and natural heritage with tourism, the Isitiya Gift and Book Shop hopes to meet the expectations of both its local and international market by promoting South Africa's rich and diverse legacy to the world.
