Instrumental jazz, folk music and guitar
2 Jan 2005 : 7pm

Five musicians will perform in a varied, accessible and juxtaposed programme of vocal and instrumental jazz, folk music and guitar instrumentals. Vocalist extraordinaire, Jacques Coetzee, leads the band with drummer, John Pringle, bassist, Heini Jack and keyboardist Ramon Alexander pay tribute to famous Cole Porter songs such as ‘Under my skin’.

Coetzee and guitarist Johann Kotze, as duo and backed by the band, sings Bob Dylan
perennials such as ‘Blowin’ in the wind’, and makes epics such as ‘All along the watchtower’ rock in a most refreshing manner. A touch of Leonard Cohen and Crosby, Stills and Nash completes the folk aspect of the programme.

The virtuoso band is as much at home delivering interpretations of evergreens like
‘Autumn leaves’ as their own evocative originals. Johann Kotze’s compositions for solo acoustic guitar or ensemble are melodic and rhythmically challenging, infused with stylistic influences from blues to folk to classical.
