Cape for Kids

Cape for Kids offers a programme for Pre-schoolers Monty the Mongoose is the star of the puppet show and he introduces children to the variety of fynbos plants and the secret delights of Kirstenbosch Garden. If it rains, the programme can be adapted to be run indoors. The programme was awarded a Caltex/Cape Times environmental award for 2003.

Dates Mondays and Tuesdays: 9:30-11:30
Age group: From pre-school learners to Grade 3

Cost: Foundation Phase Grade 1 -3 : R15,00 per learner. Includes entrance into the garden.
Grade R and Pre-primary ; R12,00 per learner. Includes entrance into the garden.

Programmes on offer:
Monty 1: Introduction to the garden - emphasis on healing plants
Monty 2: Introduction to the four main families of Fynbos
Monty 3: Introduction to forests and flora and fauna of Table Mountain

Type of Programme: Each programme includes an interactive puppet presentation which concentrates on the topic at hand. This is followed by an interactive walk in the specific area of the garden eg if Fynbos is the topic then the walk centres around the fynbos.

Sue Nepgen Holiday Programmes

Sue Nepgen is an experienced arts and crafts teacher who designs and runs holiday workshops at the Centre during the holidays. Learners are encouraged to observe from nature and discover the relationships between plants and animals. Classes are structured around seasonal occurrences such as spring flowers or autumn colours and involve a walk in the main garden. The cost involves all materials.

Cost : R60 per learner
Time : 09h30-12h30
Age group : 6-13 year olds, but younger children are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult
