Information

In support of its mission, the NBI has as one its strategic objectives to be the primary source of information on southern Africa's indigenous plants, and to disseminate this knowledge to the public. In keeping with this objective we are developing a separate web site at http://www.plantzafrica.com to bring you information about popular southern African plants and related topics.

In addition:

The NBI maintains several databases.

It has two large botanical libraries, the Mary Gunn Library in Pretoria and the Harry Molteno Library at Kirstenbosch in Cape Town. They are both open to the public.

Search the Harry Molteno Library Catalog

Search the Mary Gunn Library Catolog

The NBI produces publications, both scientific and popular.

The NBI has three herbaria which provide plant identification services.

In addition to enquiries handled by information officers, many members of the NBI staff provide information daily in the course of their duties. If you are unable to find the information you seek on this this web site, please email us at .

The NBI is aware of the increasing demand for information on southern Africa plants on the internet and we are seeking a sponsor for a project to make more information about our flora and related topics available on this web site. If you would like to be associated with this project, please contact .

Should you wish to make a formal request for information in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, please consult our PAIA Manual.
